After my high school year, I moved to live with my sister at Grand Junction, Colorado. Stayed with her for awhile then moved out to earn a living for myself. Enrolled myself to school, found a job, had my very first car, got an apartment and the journey began. Life was good and everything were going really well for me. But after a few months, everything was just so stressful and I had to quit school because financially I couldn't afford it. I said my prayers every night for about a whole month.
And with God's love He sent his servants to my door steps:) I was at work when the missionaries knocked my door. They left a pamphlet with my cousin and said they would stop by again in two days. I came home, saw the pamphlet and asked where it came from? My cousin replied, "Oh the Mormons stopped by." It wasn't something new to me because back home there were Mormon missionaries. I read the pamphlet that night, cried thanking Heavenly Father for sending His servants to me. I knew for sure at that moment that it was a "sign".
They stopped by later on that week and started teaching me about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It seemed like it was all the same from what I have learned from the different churches I have been. But just the Joseph Smith account was very unreal for me. But through a lot of fasting and praying, reading the Book of Mormon, and going to church...I had this feeling that it all made sense and this is the right path and the true church of Jesus Christ. I told my parents about it, and they weren't very supportive and told me to tell the missionaries to stop coming over. But I never did! They've invited me a couple of times for baptism and I still rejected the invitation even though I knew it was a right thing for me to do. Just because of what my dad has told me, and I never did want to disappoint him.
I prayed a lot about it and then the answer to my prayers came. The missionaries stopped by with a talk from Elder Wirthlin during a General Conference on May 1996 titled "Faith of Our Fathers". About how Heavenly Father is our first Father and we should do what He tells us to do. Which was a revelation to me that Heavenly Father is my first Father and if He has given His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ to be an example that we should follow Him, then I should follow Him and be baptized.
They showed me the talk on Sunday evening, and I was baptized that week on Thursday:) It was the best day of my life. And I am so grateful to have accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that he sent those missionaries at the right time to prepare me to start this journey and prepare myself to meet with Him after this life. After two years of preparing, learning, and living the gospel...I turned in my papers so I can go on a mission. And now I am here at California serving my Heavenly Father.
This is my journey...to have traveled more than 15,000 miles to receive the gospel, preach the gospel, and prepare myself to be with my Heavenly Father after this life. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for each and everyone of us(His children) here on earth. And He wants us to return to Him after this life. He loves us so much! I know that Jesus Christ lives and through His atoning sacrifice He has made it possible for us to return to our Heavenly Father. I am grateful for the gospel and its restoration through the prophet Joseph Smith. And that he translated the Book of Mormon with the power of God, which is another Testament of Jesus Christ...that whenever I read it, it gives me peace, comfort, and will always answer my prayers! I know that President Thomas S. Monsoon is the modern day prophet here on earth today, that he is the mouth piece of the Lord, that leads and guides us today. And this is my journey in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
